Latest Newsletter from Uganda - February 2022
The children are back in school – some for the first time since March 2020. Before they returned, a service was held at the Home where the children were prayed for and encouraged to make good use of every good opportunity that comes their way.
Nursery and Lower Primary children are still receiving home schooling from Teacher Mable.
Reunification
The social work team are always working hard to identify family members for the children at the Home, and if a suitable family member is found who can provide a safe environment for the children to grow up in, they work with the family members so that family reunification is possible.
Since December, 5 children have been reunified with family members. Due to family circumstances, we will still pay for the education for four of these children. This ensures that the children have a good education, and that the families do not get into a position where their financial situation results in the children becoming vulnerable.
Foster Care
Early February, the social workers attended a four-day training course on Foster Care and Child Adoption which was provided by Love Without Boundaries. The social workers will be working with Love Without Boundaries with the aim of identifying foster families for some of the children at the Home. The teams will then work with the families identified to prepare them for fostering a child, and will also work with the children to prepare them. This will create a more robust foster care placement for the child and family.
Follow Up Visits
Whenever children are resettled, fostered, or away at boarding school or college, the social work team regularly visit to ensure that all is well. Here is some of the latest news about their recent visits.
Destiny is working on a farm and is thoroughly enjoying his time there. The social workers recently visited and during a conversation with Julius (Farm Manager), he told the social workers that Destiny was selected from all other employees to run the Agribusiness project at Grace’s farm which is due to start later this year. In preparation for this, Destiny will receive practical skills training in Agribusiness for 10 weeks starting in April 2022.
Emma, Daniel, Isma and Betty are all fine and well, and happy to be back in school after so long.
Akram and Lukia have just started in a new school having been recently reunified. They are both studying in Primary 3.
Morris has completed his internship placement training at a garage and has now resumed his training in motor mechanics at Vocational College.
Lisa is now studying in Primary 6.
