Merry Christmas - part 1
On behalf of the Trustees of Ty Cariad Africa and the staff and children of Victory Child Care Project in Uganda, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We are grateful for your support in what has been a challenging year for all of us!
Many of you will have received a newsletter from us back in March just as Coronavirus broke out, where we voiced our concern about the long-term viability of the charity. Since then we have been overwhelmed and greatly encouraged by your incredible support, and together we continue to make a difference in the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and communities in Uganda - thank you!
Coronavirus continues to affect us all, and in Uganda, the majority of the children have been home from school since March 20th. This has resulted in major changes to their daily lives and the lives of their caregivers, with the majority of children and staff staying within the confines of the walls of the Children’s Home since March. Homeschooling has been taking place with a mixture of tuition from staff, books, and television programmes. Throughout the lockdown, the social work team has continued to work hard ensuring that the needs of those children supported in the community have continued to be met. We are so fortunate to have such a great team of social workers and caregivers in Uganda, and we are thankful for them and their dedication.
We thought long and hard about whether we should have a Christmas Appeal this year due to all the hardship and challenges that surrounded us, but we decided that as there was still need, and still generous people around like yourself who wanted to help, we should still ask for your support and make a difference to over 250 orphans, vulnerable children and families.
Yet again your support has been amazing, and to date, you have raised £3,429.87 of the target of £2,558 - which is fantastic as we have gone over the budget for Christmas, but more about that in a later post!
If you wanted to donate but haven’t done so yet, don’t worry, there is still time and you can be sure that your donation will still make a difference!
Christmas Food Packages
Your support has enabled us to provide Christmas food packages for 41 families - that’s 141 children and 87 adults who will be enjoying a better Christmas thanks to you.
The food packages were given to the families of 16 children who have been resettled or fostered; 12 families of children from the local community who are supported for their education costs, and the families of staff who work at the Children’s Home over Christmas. Each food package would provide an average of 20 meals or servings, so for a family of 5, there would be 4 meals for each one.
Food is purchased and brought to the Children’s Home to be prepared.
Food packages are prepared with the help of some of the older children at the Home, ready for distribution.
You only need to look at their faces to see what a difference this makes to their Christmas!
